What is Smash the Peak?
Smash the Peak is a competitive online matchmaking service for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, built to unite players across Europe.
Players compete in ranked matches to earn meters, which represent their progress toward the Peak, the highest level reserved for the strongest competitors on the platform. Matchmaking pairs you with other players at a similar “altitude,” ensuring fair and meaningful games.
In addition to matchmaking, Smash the Peak provides in-depth statistics aggregated across players, countries, characters, and stages. This allows you to track your own improvement while also gaining insight into the evolving European meta.
Why was Smash the Peak created?
When asked why Japanese players dominate competitive Smash, one answer comes up repeatedly: Smashmate. It created a dense, competitive ecosystem that pushed players to improve constantly.
Smash the Peak is our attempt to build a similar ecosystem for Europe. While Europe has a wider geographical spread and a lower player density, every strong competitive scene has to start somewhere. Our hope is that this platform encourages growth, competition, and connection within the European Smash community.
On a more personal level: I had time, motivation, and the urge to build something meaningful. A close friend of mine created Smash Dojo, and Smash the Peak follows in those footsteps, aiming to provide something at least as good, and continually improving over time.
But are there not already other online ladders?
Yes, and they all solve parts of the problem, but often come with trade-offs or missing features.
We believe the platform that solves the problem best will naturally rise to the top. Smash the Peak focuses on:
- A modern, themed ranking system
- Fast load times and a clean UI
- Deep statistical insights
- Strong moderation and community focus
Our goal is not just to exist, but to set a new standard.
What unique features does Smash the Peak offer?
Some of the standout features include:
- Custom ranks designed specifically around the “climbing to the Peak” theme
- Smurf account handling: After a certain match threshold, players may create an alternate account that starts at a lower rank than their highest account. All previously used mains are banned on that alt. This allows experimentation while keeping matchmaking fair.
- Game reset mechanic when players make mistakes during character or stage selection
- Many additional features already live, and more planned for the future
And much more!
How are player rankings determined?
Ranking details are explained in depth on our Extra Information page, where we outline the system and its underlying logic transparently.
What happens if players are unsportsmanlike or refuse to cooperate?
We take competitive integrity seriously and have a strong moderation policy in place.
- All match chats are public, which significantly reduces toxic behavior through accountability
- Every match allows players to report their opponent
- Reports are reviewed for intent; repeated offenses lead to timeouts and permanent bans
- If a player holds a match hostage, force-quit options are available
- Abuse of force-quit mechanics is tracked and punished accordingly
We cannot control every individual, but we can, and do, enforce consequences consistently.
Is Smash the Peak free to use?
Yes. Smash the Peak is free, and always will be.
Will there be premium features in the future?
Yes, but mainly cosmetic features. These are intended primarily to help cover server and operational costs.
How do I register for Smash the Peak?
Registration requires only a Discord account.
You will also need:
- A Nintendo Switch with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- An active Nintendo Switch Online subscription
That’s it, you’re ready to play.
